This summer, Prairie STEM brought the magic of Virtual Reality (VR) to the Bellevue Middle School Summer Camps for three unforgettable Tuesdays! Each week, a new group of campers had the chance to dive into two incredible VR experiences—Ocean Rift and Hand Physics Lab—using Meta Quest headsets. The result? Pure excitement, deep learning, and lots of “whoa!” moments.
🌊 Ocean Rift: A Dive into the Deep
Each VR session began with Ocean Rift, an immersive underwater experience that allowed students to explore the wonders of the ocean. Using either hand tracking or controllers, students swam with dolphins, sharks, whales, manatees, sea turtles, and more. As they selected different animals, they were transported to unique marine environments like coral reefs, arctic waters, and even shipwrecks.
Students loved the freedom to explore and the option to use educational mode, where they learned fascinating facts about the animals and habitats they encountered. Ocean Rift sparked curiosity, introduced marine biology concepts, and gave students a front-row seat to the beauty and mystery of life beneath the waves.
🧠 Hand Physics Lab: Puzzle Power with Just Your Hands
After their ocean adventure, students shifted from exploring the seas to solving brain-bending puzzles in Hand Physics Lab. This VR experience focuses on hand tracking and physics-based interactions, letting students use their real hands—no controllers—to grab, stack, build, paint, and even use telekinesis.
With over 80 levels and interactive experiences, campers tested their problem-solving skills by moving objects, completing challenges, and interacting with virtual clones of themselves. They loved the mix of creativity, logic, and just plain fun—especially the freedom to explore the game .
Each week brought in new students, but the excitement was the same—wide eyes, curious minds, and eager hands ready to explore. Prairie STEM was thrilled to share these powerful learning tools with Bellevue Middle School campers, blending technology, creativity, and STEM exploration into one amazing experience.
