Meet Maya Savoy! She is a Prairie STEM volunteer who has devoted many hours to our Virtual STEM Kits and lessons.

Maya Savory is a junior at Brownell Talbot. Maya joined JuSTEMagine during the summer of 2020, and currently holds the position of Director of Curriculum. Maya started working with Prairie STEM over the summer of 2020, assembling Virtual STEM kits for Howard Kennedy Elementary in the Omaha Public Schools. She has since then designed her own virtual STEM lessons for Prairie STEM’s middle school website. One of Maya’s goals is to integrate the Arts into STE(A)M curriculum.  She has been able to connect both music and art into her lessons which help stimulate the brain with creativity in problem-solving. Outside of JuSTEMagine, Maya performs speeches, competes in fencing, designs for her school’s yearbook, plays the saxophone, and more.

Maya has just finished her first two lessons for Prairie STEM’s Middle School Virtual STEM Kits. These lessons can be ordered by schools to enrich their students’ STEM education. Our elementary site currently has 76 different lessons that come with a kit of materials. Each kit contains materials for different Science and/or Math activities, all aligned to state and national standards. Prairie STEM is populating the middle school site with lessons that also align to state and national standards. Maya’s lessons have been uploaded to our Middle School Virtual STEM Kits site. Blood Model can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l5kZVl48q4HzR1oGVvqvVSQoBY8ZCqXPqJcCuwK34Zg/edit and Spectroscope can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/documentd/1uArswmeVgCunCzeyOa4b2RSDHcGEcfyl3AV3vqWjGKk/edit. Maya has worked very hard on these lessons and we want to show them off. Thank you, Maya, for your dedication to advancing STEM Education here at Prairie STEM!

Cox Communication’s Connect Space at 75 North’s Highlander Accelerator building has been the home of the kits in the past few months where we have finished getting them ready to deliver. Thank you to CoxConnect and 75 North for allowing us to assemble, package and distribute these hands-on STEM kits in their facility.
